Summer is my favorite time of year. Longer days, warmer weather and lots of outdoor activities. During summer I really just want to live my life without putting much thought into what to wear. So I gathered together a small set of items that all mix and match well with each other so that I could really easily create a bunch of different looks without much effort. Here is a simple example of the Summer Capsule Wardrobe I made to turn 15 basic pieces into 30 different outfits!
(Shopping links below are all below $50 and mostly from Target & Old Navy.)

I love that yellow printed top you have on! I just posted today on what I bought for a maternity wardrobe and I would love your opinion since you are the capsule queen and a proud mama!

Your maternity wardrobe seems great! Way more organized/economic way to approach it then I did. I found that I ended up having 3 sizes of pregger clothes – small (normal ‘fat clothes’ wardrobe), medium (most of the pregnancy, somewhere around 20 weeks on, most of the items you listed) and SUPER PREGGERS (a few things – like 3 – that I could stand to wear in the last few weeks). But what’s nice is after you give birth – you work your way back through the list as you return to your ‘normal’ self. ๐
Great! I JUST clicked over to your blog thinking “I need a Summer 2016 capsule wardrobe. Let’s see…”
Yay! Hope you find it helpful!! ๐
Totally helpful. I actually pulled every piece out of my existing wardrobe. I subbed a few items- bootcut jeans for the patterned pants, and shorts for the skirts, and converse and toms for the pumps. Thanks again!
That’s awesome!! So happy to hear you found it useful!!
I never would have thought I would ever say this, but after seeing some of your combos, I NEED A PAIR OF WHITE PUMPS!! I’ve never loved white shoes, but I LOVE the jeans, striped shirt, and white pumps outfit. And the cognac jacket…TDF! ๐
New white pumps outfit coming tomorrow! ๐
Thanks MK! I love your capsule posts!
Yay! Glad you like them! ๐
This post inspired me to go and get a pair of bright colored flats! I had some black ones, and some nude ones, and other neutral shoes- but nothing super fun. I just bought a pair of light-coral flats today, after noticing a few days ago (after seeing this post and examining my own stuff) that I have TONS of clothes that would go with bright pink shoes! Your pairings in this post made me realize I can pair them with even more than I realized.
And I was thinking… I bet people would totally hire you as a stylist. Seriously! Because of things like that- pairing things already in their wardrobe that they didn’t even think of, or getting one key colorful accessory like a scarf or shoes, and doing so much with it ๐ I was glad to see in the sidebar that you may make “a few cents” if we click your links, because you’ve done a great blog for years and you deserve it. And I’ve bought a few things that you’ve posted, so hopefully I have contributed.
Thanks so much. I hope you get lots of wear & new outfits out of your new colored flats! They sound really cute!
Ciao! So cute! I noticed that neither of the lists, either in the infographic or the clickable lists, add up to 15 items (fourteen up top and thirteen down below). The missing items seem to be the leatherette jacket and the patterned pants. I’m digging these combos and might use some of the ideas for my PCSig list on my upcoming road trip through Italy! Maybe you could guest post on HerPackingList.com sometime — my fav website ๐
Oops. Thank you. Sometimes counting is hard. ๐
I hope you have a wonderful time in Italy!
Where is the floral dress in your capsule from? The link is for a different target dress… thanks!
It’s from a few years ago on Amazon – here’s the link – unfortunately it’s sold out now: http://bit.ly/1VQjFRG
This is my favorite capsule that you’ve done. Thank you for the refresh! I’m in a different city for two weeks this summer and am totally using this as my template with a few swap outs based on the weather and my own color preferences. This is genius!
(I also think you meant to add in the fun green necklace on the accessories- see, I’ve studied this way too much!)
Thanks so much! I’m glad you like it! I hope it ends up being useful for your summer trip. Yay!
Oops and good catch with the green necklace! I’ve been a little low on sleep past few weeks and been missing some details across the board lately. ๐
