Sometimes getting dressed and blogging about it is really fun. Picking out things that go together in new ways can be a creative challenge. I usually really enjoy playing dress up and sharing it here.
But for the past three weeks work has been insane. Late nights. Weekends. Stress. And all of the effort to keep afloat is eating up all of my creative brain juice. So when I get dressed and think about taking a photo of what I’m wearing – I feel like everything I put on is stupid and boring and why would anyone even care. Taking outfit pictures is narcissistic and stupid.
And then even when I manage to get over myself and take a picture before rushing out the door – when I try to type the post up I get annoyed at myself all over again because I feel like everything I want to write is just me whining. Woe is me. So busy. Big dumb pity party. It’s not cute. Everyone has jobs. Everyone is busy. Shut up.
So after this gross word vomit today – I’m going to try to focus and write more sartorially related stuff each day and force myself not to begin every paragraph, “I’m so busy with work” which basically equates to, “I’m so boring and annoying.”

You are still one of my favorite fashion bloggers, and I’ve never noticed you complaining — honestly probably because it makes you more relatable! 🙂 Your outfits are an inspiration because they are real, achievable, and classic.
Hmmm…. are you overly tired? PMS-ing? Eating too much sugar? All of the above? Because you sound just like me when one or all of these things are happening. I have intrusive, negative thoughts that aren’t very well grounded. If you feel you are struggling in any of the areas I listed, then please be gentle with yourself, and shelve these thoughts, for the few days it takes to try and get some life balance back.
Also, thank you for all your posts. I don’t care how often you post or whether your copy is whiny. Just do you, within whatever parameters your season in life currently dictates (too busy, etc).
Not stupid–stupid is something off a Paris runway that no real woman can afford with a real job! Not boring–boring is fashion that no real woman in small town America would be caught dead in! Not narcissistic–narcissistic is all about the ‘brand’ and nothing about the fashion! Real–you are The Real One that a real woman in a real life can relate to, go to for a way to get a new look from an old wardrobe, see how to assemble a capsule wardrobe, learn how to pack for a vacation, and find a professional look for a real job, all without breaking the bank!
Yes – totally agree! Love this.
I’ve probably said this before, but what I like about you is that you actually have a regular job and regular style. Far more relatable than others. I actually like reading that you are busy (you know what I mean, haha) and about work and life because I can relate. Most of us reading fashion blogs are sitting in our cubicles and your blog makes me feel a lot better than those that are gallivanting around Europe in designer duds. I literally NEVER read what they write in their posts but I read yours (and a select few others) because it’s more like hearing about a friend’s day over drinks or something. I don’t know, just my two cents!
Agree completely! Keep up the great work!
I was just coming to comment something very similar!
I feel you, I’m in that same kind of funk and feeling stretched really thin between work and personal stuff. Glad to know that others go through it, too! And also that they go through that “Everything I wear is stupid” phase as well. Don’t worry, you look fab!
Hi MJ,
We all have those days when we feel like everything we put on looks stupid. Please don’t stop giving us outfits; you have a lot more good ones than bad. I enjoy your site because it makes my life easier when making fashion decisions. Thanks for your hard work, it makes a difference to me and to a lot of other women in the working world.
I agree with all the previous posters! You are a real person with a job, obligations, mom duties etc. I’m amazed that you even have time to do this blog, but I personally love reading it and your style choices are very similar to mine. And yes I do read this at the office! Love today’s outfit!
I am so glad you share “normal” outfits; I have been reading for years and your blog is one of the few that I actually copy outfits from. I wish more blogs showed “real life” and clothes that a normal person would really wear to work or on the weekends. Thank you for continuing to blog even with your crazy busy life!
Everybody is entitled to whine and complain, every now and then. The secret (as you’ve figured out) is to put everything into perspective. Whenever my husband and I complain about something that seems important (to us at least), one of us will look at each other and say, “First World Problems.” That usually shuts us up.
Please don’t worry about being busy with work. I echo other commenter’s – I appreciate that you are able to do what you in spite of a busy job and life as a wife, mom, and friend. Keep it up, I love your posts!!
I think you are great and absolutely never boring!!! People are boring that don’t try at all and wear tshirts and jeans. You’ve given me a lot of inspiration to dress better and to try new outfits. We all have our pity parties, it’s okay!
This post was awesome and made me laugh out loud. I do not mind being a part of your pity parties at all. As a professional woman with a very demanding job, a loving husband, 2 busy boys, a puppy, and not a big enough budget for all the clothes I want to buy, you provide a lot of inspiration for me when I’m beating my head into my closet wall thinking there is NOTHING in here that I can wear! My style is extremely similar to yours and I have empathy to your busy life because it sounds a lot like mine. So I’ll bring the wine to your pity party and won’t judge at all because Lordy knows I’ve had some rocking good pity parties with all my first world problems! Keep on and carry on!
I am in total agreement with the other comments. You are relatable. You are a wife, a mother and a working professional. You post outfits that are sensible, yet fashionable and current, and again it is something that the everyday working woman, like myself, can appreciate and relate to. So, thank you for that! Just keep being you!
I much prefer your realness to exaggerated concern over transitioning one’s wardrobe from summer to fall and photos of bloggers wearing booties, scarves, and wool hats in sweltering July. Sorry if that offends any of those bloggers, your sacrifice for fashion is noted and appreciated, although not quite necessary. Hope life gives you a break soon, MK.
I agree with everything the others have said. You are a real person having real struggles. We all struggle with life and work. It is helpful to hear “real” stories on the web. So often the personas portrayed on the web and social media is a rosy picture where life is perfect. But that’s not real. Thanks for being real and hope things calm down soon!
I agree with the other posters that your blog is a refreshing change from the many ‘perfect’ visions of life.
I work from home sitting at a desk from 9-5 usually in a tshirt and shorts. I check this site everyday to see what you’re wearing. I do miss getting dressed and going to an office sometimes. I have copied many of your outfits when I do have the occasional meeting. I have packed for vacation from the suitcase series.
Our lives as busy working Moms never ends but you inspire us to look our best, lose weight 😉 and shop frugally!
We love you MK!
I like hearing about your life, no matter what you’re doing!
